Move over, Cupid…the month of February is dedicated to National Children’s Dental Health, so we will be focusing on our cuspids instead! What a perfect opportunity for the local specialists at North Penn Pediatric Dental Associates (NPPDA) to shine a light on the importance of dental health! Developing healthy habits at an early age helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Brace yourself; below are some facts about dental health that you might find a bit unnerving!
- Tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood disease, per the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. It’s more common than asthma, allergies, obesity, and even diabetes!
- According to The Centers for Disease Control, nearly one out of every five children in the U.S. has untreated cavities.
- U.S. students lose more than 51 million school hours each year due to dental-related illnesses.
Sounds scary, right? But don’t worry; NPPDA knows the drill. Their two office locations (in Lansdale and Harleysville) are both staffed with friendly, attentive, specially trained professionals who are ready to care for your child’s dental and orthodontic needs. They teach children the best way to care for their teeth, and also show them that a visit to the dentist can be a fun experience. For example, one of the services they offer is a special certificate and small gift for young ones who are ready and willing to hand over their pacifier for good!
NPPDA deserves a plaque for connecting with their community in so many ways. They hold food drives to collect Thanksgiving meal donations for Manna on Main Street, host their own candy buy-back program after Halloween, and sponsor several organizations, including sports teams, North Penn School District, and Relay for Life. They even encourage patients to wear Eagles gear to support the team in the playoffs…in the video below (from the NPPDA Facebook page), you can see that the staff themselves got into the spirit, too!
